OUR WEEKEND SAFARI

Hunting...it is a Louisiana Tradition and no one loves it more than my Punkin!

Oh Girls you know how much my Punkin Darlin loves his Mizmollye and is always soooooooo accomodating and just lets me feel as if everyday is Christmas and he takes me to the ballet, the opera on occasion, to plays, junking excursions, shopping, to my choice of movies, restaurants, and you get the picture he absolutely treats me like I'm his little princess and I love him so much for being the wonderful caring guy he is but you know I truly get to feeling such guilt for not being "into" the stuff he is and I decided that this weekend it would be all about him and I said, "Honey, whatever you want to do this weekend is gonna be what we do, and I'll go with you and be your best friend and be happy doing stuff you like". So of course his dream has always been to go on an actual safari. I mean truly a dream. Well we really can't make that happen right now but we did go to Bass Pro Shop together and I decided since I had my camera that I would create a Safari for the two of us today. Sure hope he likes it! teehee...here we go!

We begin our journey with Wild Bill showing Mike AKA Punkin Darlin the latest in knives, cause you know he must have a new knife for skinning purposes and he told me to go and find us each a nice pair of boots

like any of these?, I ask. At which he gives me the look. You know the one

Well...what about these...any better? I ask. It was then he decided he'd find the boots and they looked nothing like these. He got the big old clunky green and brown patchwork kind. Grrrrrrr!

Well Punkin said we would be bow hunting as well as gun hunting so he was checking out the latest in archery supplies for his little sidekick

And then he said I could pick out my own rifle. Guess which I chose?

And I wandered around the big hunting store eyeing all sorts of things we might need
hmmmmmmmm... I wonder... uh nevermind

So off we go into the wild blue yonder to safari country

It's been decided that I will try my luck with the bow and arrows first so after a few quick tips Punkin suggests that I practice a little first at the range

So as you can see I'm decked out from top to bottom in the latest camo couture and before I can say "quiver"

And I have an entire herd of whitetail deer right on top of me and Bam, Zing, Swoosh...one arrow after the other and I missed every one of them

So Punkin gets down from his stand...
Says he brought me a pressie and blows it up and stands it in front of me and says I can practice until I use up my arrows and then if the air is out of it, he will give me the pink gun to do some real hunting with

I soon call him to say my arrows have all been shot and he comes back down off his stand. The little deer is still standing. Full of air.

So Punkin leaves shaking his head and soon I see him coming with one of the guides in this little pick-up truck and he has another pressie for me. A Camera! So he suggests good naturedly of course that I might just like photographing wildlike while he tries once again to get something. Anything he says!

So with my camera

I see these

these little guys

and this

this big boy

what a beauty she is

A family of Bobcats

more relatives

some pretty angry hogs

And I was so glad Punkin had put me high up in a tree before I eyed these furry beasts. Too late. My cover was blown. This momma had a youngin nearby and she had seen me and thought I was a threat. I screamed like a schoolgirl and Punkin came thrashing throught the brush and momma bear scrammed and he held me and consoled me and took me down and off we went in the black pick-up.

"Honey," I asked, "what did you get"... Poor darling, he had seen nothing. NOTHING all day.. But for some reason he was tired and ready to get back.

such a sweet little kitchen, but we had nothing to eat

Punkin just sat quietly and gazed out the little window as I told him of the animals I'd seen and captured on my camera.

I never knew hunting could be so much fun and I can't wait to come back to our little treehouse cabin for another safari. Sure hope he asks me again soon.

I just love my best friend like crazy.

  7. Wow now that was a safari. I have never been in a Bass Pro Shop. HH is not a hunter. Tried when we lived in the country and could never get up the nerve to shoot a deer. He would shoot a cat though. You are only the second 'I love you' I have had today. Nobody is home but me. Too hot for me. God has so blessed you. I love you two, too.

  8. What a great idea, Mollye .... the gift of your time and attention is, no doubt, more precious than anything to your hubby :)
I need to take a lesson for my own DH - whose passion is all things aviation (author's note: zzzzzzz).
I've a hunch the two of you could make a good time out of an IRS audit!
    Love ya!

  10. Good Morning Mollye Sweetie...
Oh you and sweet Punkin had a boot stompin time on this safari. I love it. You always make me smile. Daddy has always loved the Bass Pro Shop and here in the valley while we don't have a Bass Pro Shop we do have a Cabela's store which could take you a week or more to see everything. They even have large fish aquariums in there. You can eat lunch there. It will wear you out for sure. You must google Cabelas for Punkin if he hasn't seen one.

I have gone back and read a few posts that I have missed. I so love to read your writings. You should write a book about your journey sweet Mollye. It is a journey to share with many more than the bloggers. Have you ever thought about it? You should.

Well sweetie, I hope you and Dear Punkin are having a wonderful filled Sunday. I have laundry to do.

Many hugs sweetie and so much love, Sherry

  11. I hope you bought me the white boots with the gold swirls on them and that Hot Pink gun! We have an old dinner bell in the backyard and that's what my target practice is, trying to ring the dinner bell. If, I had that pink gun I bet I could ring that bell everytime. Kind of like the hot pink bowling ball I had back in the 70's. Was sure it would improve my game.
When your score is around 90 you only have one way to go.

  12. Hi Mollye Gal...Yep, The Bass ProShop is an amazing place to go Shooting with a camera and not worry about hitting anyone or anything. Isn't it fun that all those animals and hunters sit so still for their picture to be taken.
Loved to see you on a Safari and having a good time. I've been having a Travelin Summer around Texas and not much Travelin in Blogland. I hope you'll forgive me for not visiting with you as often as I'd like. Just stopping by to say Howdy and Thank YOU for coming to CollectInTexas Gals Summer Travel Log!
    See ya again soon.
