LEARNING TO TRAVEL LIGHT

He leads me beside the still waters.
Psalm 23:2

The key is this: Meet today's problems with today's strength. Don't start tackling tomorrow's problems until tomorrow. You do not have tomorrow's strength yet. You simply have enough for today. (p. 50)

Oh don't you just love this! And isn't this so true of especially us women who can barely get through today's problems without trying to solve what we perceive tomorrow will bring. I truly do not know when I've been so thoroughly enchanted with a book. I know many of you regularly read Max Lucado, but I have to say this is the first thing I've ever read of his and he had me from "hello". I am a Catholic and I tend to buy little books from the Catholic Book Store which is right around the corner from me and they do not stock Max Lucado. However my daughter Shari and I regularly do the Beth Moore Bible Studies which we get at the Lifeway Book Store and they carry all of Max Lucado material so I know where to find more. Theresa you really hit the nail on the head when you thought of me and bought this book.

The little pearl of wisdom about today's strength came from the chapter titled "Whaddifs and Howells" about worry. You know "what if this or what if that"........and "how will I do this and how will I do that".

And that is his style of writing, just as simple that a child can understand but interestingly written to capture your attention.

Each chapter deals with a burden which includes:

discontent...weariness...worry...hopelessness...guilt...arrogance...burden of the grave...grief...fear...lonliness...shame...disappointment...envy...doubt...homesickness.

So if you're looking for a little something you can pick up when you plan on nothing more than a 5-minute read before falling to sleep ... look for this book! A little book that packs a huge PUNCH***

Oh and before I forget..............This is post #368, so when I write my 400th post I will draw a name for the big Basket of Blessings, so be sure to click on the sidebar basket and go to that post to leave a comment for your entry!

  1. MAX has seen me thru a lot of difficult times...

Thanx for stopping by yesterday and leaving your sweet comments about my grandson JAKE getting a haircut...

We have many more things in common...and when we first started blogging together I knew we felt like sisters...and I believe you said the same.

I wanted to tell you how YOUR Jake's untimely death brought that out clearer to me ~

as you know, my grandson is named JAKE...actually after my dad, JAKE ~
my grandmother had my heart and soul...i wrote a special post in her memory when she would have celebrated her 100th birthday this year on
    JANUARY 3rd ~
my mother lost her fight with cancer and left us on JUNE 17th of 1997...

Your Jake's story touches my heart and I have so many memories that will remind me to think of him.

HUGS to you my SWEET FRIEND

  2. Every to often our Sunday School class uses one of Max's books as a study. We've not ever done this particular book. I'm going to have to look for it. Worry is one of the things I do best - and would prefer not to.

  3. Good Morning Sweet Mollye...
Oh thank you for the suggestion of the book. At night before I close my eyes, sometimes I just like to read a little something to sleep on.

I will be checking out this book. I may just go to Amazon.com. Always the easiest for sure. No running around all over the BIG city.

Yes he truly does lead us beside still waters does he not? I love this post sweet friend. Thank you for the beautiful thoughts for this days beginnings.

Many hugs and so much love, Sherry

  6. Oh, I love him, Mollye! One of my very favorite books and one you would LOVE is called, NO WONDER THEY CALL HIM THE SAVIOR! I know nuns who love that. I highly recommend it.

He is just the best. I have several of his books, and I recently bought a tiny one about how much God loves us. I needed it.

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  9. Hi Mollye! I'm sorry I haven't stopped to comment in what seems like a very long time. I believe that you know, though, you are always in my heart and thoughts! I haven't read any of Max's books, but I will keep an eye out for some...to add to the stacks I already have! :)

  12. I love Max Lucado. My mama introduced me to his writings, and I've been a fan of his ever since.

And you've just solved a teensy puzzle for me, too: My friend Paul, the one in prison, is also a Catholic, and his birthday is coming up. I've been trying to figure out what to get him for his birthday. Books & magazines are about the only thing I can send, and this particular book sounds perfect. Even though you didn't know you were doing it, I thank you for giving me the answer! (The Lord does work in mysterious ways, doesn't he?)

    Love and hugs, dearest Mollye,
    from Anitra
