Freeform Crochet
I recently got this book and I am into it every night! Maybe for not a long time but at least a few minutes. I have always been a fan of this type fiber art and some of these images go beyond my wildest expectations. It's not that I don't want to follow directions or that I have a problem conforming to the rules. I so much want to, but something in my brain goes haywire half way through the project of traditional crochet directions and I end up either with a mess or with my own less than desirable design anyway so I decided this technique may be the ticket for me!
Love. love the hats and there are more designs to choose from. But these are fun, quirky and so different. The yummy colors are the first thing I'm drawn to and as of yet do not have these yarns, so am doing my "practicing" from the colors I have on hand.
The directions for this artform are vague to say the least. Most of what you see has been created by crocheting little swatches, bobs, circles, or different shapes the author refers to as "patches".
They are then sewn/crocheted or attatched in the shape you want or they may be attached over something, as in an existing hat. A little hard to explain but I'm finding in my "golden years", that I actually have more patience than I did when younger and if it is something I truly want to learn, I have been able to stick with it long enough for much of it to soak in. Of course I lend most of this revelation to prayer though.
I have never, never, never made garments. I've crocheted doll dresses for Barbies tho I probably could not do that today and I've made a passle of neck scarves, afghans, hats, and even purses but to say I've ever made anything to wear, I haven't, but I do admire these vests and there are wraps or shawls that are so fancy smancy and glitzy that if you saw them you'd die for one! So who knows I may give it a go this fall.
And as they say "the proof is in the puddin'", well here's my Puddin! This is some of the little patches I've been doing at night and if...NO I meant to say WHEN I get proficient on them and master all the techniques I will invest in some really nice yarn and be on my way to Freeform Crochet to be proud of.
