IT'S PICNIC TIME ON EARTH

No matter where you live or what you do in life is there much better than having a Picnic?

This weekend coming up is probably the number one time of each year when more and more take to the outside for dining.

do you look for a place with a table?

or just a pretty spot in nature

Never mind the ants, the heat, the (squat!) pesky mosquitos, sand, dirt, grime, and all the other little nusances that go with planning and eating on the ground the fact remains that a Picnic is just down right Fun.

food planning usually puts me in the mood

and of course without some family it just would not work as well

throw in a few kids of various ages

and a little creek or a pool makes for more smiles

don't forget to bring plenty of ice for those yummy salads and deserts brought from home

put all dads on the grill and that's a sure hit

You've just made a day of love all over the place!

What are your Memorial Day Weekend Plans?

Punkin and I celebrate our 6th Anniversary this Saturday but Sunday we will grill in the back yard and play in the pool and for sure there will be a little family but it is always very informal with just who ever happens to come by. A day of no hard planning works best for us!

Halloween Week Monday

"Laissez les bon temps rouller" (let the good times roll)

Halloween Week Is Here

and what better way to kick it off than a trip to the fair! Yeppers the Louisiana State Fair is in town and I went for round #1 Friday night with my two boys and my sweet Alabama DIL Jessica. My daughters and I will do it again this weekend. We ate our way through the midway first and then waddled on into the arena for a slam dunkin, root tootin, get down, get back boot scootin Rodeo! After whoopin and hollerin with all the Cowboys and Cowgirls we wandered back onto the midway for a few sweets and made our way into the throngs of people 2-stepping the Louisiana way to the rockin sounds of Wayne Toups and his Zydecajun Band then we watched all the macho monster boyfriends spending Friday's paychecks (hoping to win a favor or two themselves later in the evening) to cap a bottle, make a hoop or shoot water into a tiny target to win their sweeties huge hairy dogs and pigs in pink (that will be later sent to the Goodwill with excuses like "I can't stand to look at that crap anymore cause it reminds me of that jerk, so 'n so ") which they carry around on their shoulders to show all the other guys that THEY have it going on.
Then what's a good fair without a Freak Show. Yep I'll give you a look at the freak displays tomorrow. Then last but not least it was time for things that go round and round, up and down, over and over and You guessed it........Ferris Wheels and other shiny, blinking, loud, huge steel toys for us big people guaranteed to make you laugh, squeel, faint, spend your money, lose your dentures, scream in delight, puke and wet your pants all in one 3 minute span! I tell you folks there just ain't nothin quite like a good old trip to the Fair.
For today though I chose the best part of the night.................FOOD. Greasy (burp, belch uh.....excuse me please),Spicy, Sweet, Unhealthy, Expensive and the best smelling, best dang tastin junk that no one can resist! Gotta love it. I had a Yeero! Nothing quite like feeling you're in Greece on a humid, fun-filled Louisiana night in October!

Buddy and Jess just simply lookin all adorable and cute as uhhhhhhhhh Mr. and Mrs. Lumberjack?

And heres the Baby of the Family, Jake ( we all like to call him Jakey Boy) all decked out in his New Orleans Saints gear... Go Saints!, savoring a Cheesecake Delight on a Stick dipped in chocolate and covered in sprinkles! Whoo hoo that's livin, ya hear.

And Now For Some True Culinary Delights!

The All American Favorite...yes?

How 'bout a little Poke Salad Annie, Gator Gotcha Granny. Uhm......mmm good!

I Got Lost in the '50's

Poor birds! Guess the rest of them is somewhere in a freezer waiting to go on our tables next month.

Hansel & Gretel here I come. Now this is MY kinda food!

Yummy Good East Coast Philly stuff made it's way to the Bayou State

And to top it off... A little South of The Border. Ole'

Now if this won't make you smack your lips I don't know what will!

So come on back and tag along with me to the Louisiana State Fair where you'll see what True Freaks of Nature look like, a Rodeo, Games of Skill (uh yeah right), Rides to Thrill and other curiosities found in the Exhibit Building celebrating the Unique Louisiana Cajun Way!

aaa-eeee and aaaa-ha(which in coon-ass cajun lingo means "boys we passed a good time yeah, doncha know)............Mizmollye

We're home and we had an awesome camping trip. Lori and Marcus had everything set up and ready for us and as you can see it was more than A-OK.
Plenty of room for everyone to spread out and cute little tables to play games and eat at.
My girl is just a little more than organized. She had styro cups with a bar of soap in each one and in little bags to keep them all tidy and plenty of wash cloths and other necessities near by
Then when you wanted to go to the showers you just grabbed one of those big canvas bags and stuffed all your things in and after showering you had something to put your dirties in. Great Camping Tip #1.

This is what I woke to the first morning. Ummmmmmmmm nothing quite as good smelling as the coffee brewing and other goodies to make it even better! Great Camping Tip #2

Oh Yea..now this is what I'm talking about. Scrambled eggs with fresh salsa and garlic cheesy toast with hot sausage, juice and coffee.

Here's Lori and Punkin Darlin with a job well done toast over a little toast. Bon Appetit'.

She was just showing us the emergency basket with a stash of cards and dice in case of rain or other mishaps that might keep us inside

when the bottom fell completely out and the morning was spent inside until the storm ended. Punkin D. was so glad to see those cards
but the crafty gal I am came prepared to create something. Didn't know exactly what but I did have my little scissors so I just found a very comfortable seat in the "house" and proceded to look for something to cut up or alter. Hey I see some paper nearby

But as soon as we had a break in the nasty weather we took to sea and here you can see our Captain looking more than a little concerned about the grey skies
Lori is ready for action though

and I am up to the challenge too

but the skies couldn't hold the deluge that came next and we were forced to seek dry ground

Once on the banks Lori said, "I came to fish" and fish she did. We stayed out of the boat so we could make a hasty retreat back to the motor home if necessary and we filled our stringer with just the right size scrumptious little bream, and doncha know there just ain't much better than frying these little buggers up with corn meal batter until they're golden and crunchy.

Even Marcus got his share, and I'm not supposed to tell you but this was the very FIRST fish the guy ever caught. Yep, tis true. He's a Stockton California type guy and just didn't have the same kind of fun out there as we hillbilly, redneck southern types do:) tee hee

Pretty nice rides here

and not too shabby here either

Some beach wash-up I thought might just make a good art background someday

and a really unusual little flower. Don't know what it was but looked so delicate to be so hardy as to grow from sand

And last but not least I wanted to call this "roots", but Mike said it should be "Old Man Standing Alone". Isn't this amazing how these trees can stand and thrive with almost all the roots exposed.
And THAT, boys and girls is a sampling of our camping trip. Good times, Good fun, Good food, Good folks but how Good to be back home. God is Good!
Peace, Mollye
