Speaking Of Art...................

"Art is not about thinking something up
It is the opposite-------------getting something down".

Julia Cameron

This interesting woman was born March 4, 1948 in Illinois and has been an American teacher, author, artist, poet, playwright, novelist, filmmaker, composer and journalist. Whew! She is also a recovering alcoholic, drug addict and was the second wife of two years to Martin Scorsese.

Ms. Camerson stopped the drugs and alcohol and began teaching creative unblocking, which propelled her to fame after she published the book based on her teachings, "The Artist's Way". She states that creativity is an authentic spiritual path.

I cannot tell you how many times I have said to myself, "I have to make some art today but I don't have a clue what it will be. But I have just got to think something up! Well my heart wasn't in it. I was thinking with my head because those times, I've rarely been pleased with the outcome and often felt my time was wasted and could have been better spent washing dirty clothes or dishes. But the times I've felt more in tune with God and alive with the joys of living I'll get that burning desire to create. To get something down. I still don't usually know the outcome but that's when I'm making art because I have to, because I am compelled to do it for the sheer exhiliration rather than folly or a chore that needs doing.

Indeed the path to creativity seems to be a spiritual one. Would you agree with me there sister?

  1. Mollye, you are so right! Art and creativity does stem from spirituality for me definitely. The times when it seems to flow through me from getting connected to a source are the times when my drawings are so much better, than the times when they are forced! I like your background! Suzie xxx

  2. Lord is the great creator, so it follows that creative inspiration comes from Him. :-)
