WHO AM I TO TALK?????????

Now I can see why when I was a teen I thought old women were just big mouthed yakkers!

I mean it wasn't just old women, it was old men too. Old being anyone over the age of 40 for sure. They were always criticizing the way we dressed, the way we wore our hair, the things we did, the music we listened to. They were just old fogies and no fun.

Today I had one of those light bulb moments, or a spiritual awakening, or a come to Jesus meeting by myself or whatever you want to call it. I know it was a revelation!

And I was sitting here remembering the stupid...stupid things I did when I was a kid. Like the time I had finished my clarinet music lesson and was waiting in line to pay at the counter to pay for my session and just for the pure hell of it, and because I could, I put my finger in the little hole of the silver cap that went on the mouthpiece of my clarinet to protect the reed. Well I turned it and I turned it and before you knew it .... yep it was stuck on so tight I could not get it off.

Embarrassed just did not describe the foolish way I was feeling and what an ordeal to get it off. It literally had to be cut off.

So the stupid things I see kids do today ... well there still seem stupid to me, but they did not invent stupid. Been there and done that myself.

And of course a quick trip to the mall leaves us shaking our heads at the dress code for today. Dress code????????????? There is none. Sometimes silly, sometimes cute and many times downright vulgar.

But I am sure there were old folks in the fifties and sixties who thought we were completely out of line here. And I know the kids of today think we were lame.

I remember my Daddy not wanting me to go out with a boy with a hairstyle kinda like this only he probably had Brylcream in his hair. But if his hair touched the collar or if he had sideburns he was a "bad boy".

But wait......lookey here, lookey here this is a boy of 2010 and this style, well it is downright stylish. To anyone under 40 that is.

So what is the moral of this story you ask? Probably not much of one. Just wanted to join in bloggyland today and my mind went here. But what I mean to impart on you is that we can all probably just chill out and accept the youth and everyone else on the planet as being the unique person they are and realize that in a 50 years folks will be making fun of this generation and with any luck I might not be around to see what comes next!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Fact: I understand this, honey! I agree with you but vulgar is vulgar in dress today. I cannot abide seeing "fat tummies" hanging out. That's not a fashion statement; that's an UGLY statement.

  3. So true Mollye. I can remember ironing my hair to make it straight and it was already straight as a stick LOLOLOL Laying my head down on that ironing board - it's a wonder I didn't singe my ear! And Lordy - remember white patent leather boots and hot pants? I can't believe I EVER wore those and I was married then LOLOLOL

  4. I don't really care how the kids dress today. The only thing I tisk-tisk over is those boys who wear such baggy pants that they have to walk bow-legged & hold them up. LOL!!
I was a flower child of the 60's........ Now we were cool!!??!! LOL!!
    Have a Wonderful Day!
    Love,

  5. Oh Lordy Mercy Mizmollye, let's not think about the next 50 years:) The styles are a bit over the top sometimes. I am happy the Grandkids are wearing uniforms these days, they look so nice! Enjoy your day my friend as you look back at the olden days!

  6. Good Morning Mollye Sweetie...
I drive past the high school and shudder. Some of the things the girls were today is unbelievable. I remember when the teachers would make us stand in the hall, hold our hands down to our sides and our dresses had to be exactly 4 inches longer than our hands at our sides. They even measured with their tapes. Unbelievable, and we weren't allowed to wear slack or jeans to school. Dresses only.

My yes the times sure have changed. And what is it with these piercings? It is REALLY scary, and holes in the ears you can see daylight and the sun through. Lord where have the times gone?

Thank goodness none of my grandkids are into these things yet. I will keep holding my breath.

Hope you are doing well sweet friend. I am still struggling, but taking each day as it comes. I love you sweetie. Many hugs and so much love, Sherry

  8. GOOD AFTERNOON MIZ MOLLYE,
WHEN MY MOTHER WAS GROWING UP, GRANDDAD WOULD NOT LET HER WATCH ELVIS PRESLEY AS HE FELT THE WAY HE MOVED HIS HIPS WAS FILTHY.
IN NINTH GRADE I WAS SENT HOME FROM SCHOOL BECAUSE MY SKIRT WAS 1/4TH OF AN INCH TOO SHORT...MY MOTHER WAS FURIOUS AND MEASURED IT HERSELF.
    VERY INTERESTING TOPIC FOR TODAY.
YOU AND PUNKIN AND YOUR CHILDREN ARE IN MY PRAYERS EVERY DAY. I THINK OF YOU AND JAKE OFTEN.
    HAVE A WONDERFUL EVENING MOLLYE
    LOVE AND HUGS
    SIMPLY DEBBIE

  9. Wow Miz M. that first picture really screamed out to me.LOL.
That is a good thing to talk about today. I went to my basket class today and went to Wally World. Man that is the place to really see the weirdos. Black nail polish, 2 or 3 colors in one head of hair, boys or girl.s. Oh well the world goes on.

  10. Hi Mollye,
I like how your mind works! You get an idea to write about and you just go with it. I think that's why I love you so much!
I remember wearing hot pants and halter tops in the seventies! LOL! My Mom nearly had a heart attack when she saw me in that get up. Oh, and don't forget the shiny disco boots....yeah baby!

    hugs

  11. Hi Miz M. This is so funny, Truthfully I let my son wear what he likes as long as he does not go overboard. he likes bright colors which bothers my Mom sometimes but truthfully if that is all that he ever does for people to talk about, I will call my life Blessed. I agree with you 100% about accepting people as they are though.

  12. When I was young, I vowed I would NEVER be like my grandparents (who raised me). I would LOVE the music of the day and stay updated on style and fashion. So far, I have kept my vow.

I still appreciate young people, still have fun with them, still laugh when they do something they think is funny, but some things will turn me off forever, no matter the age: tatoos, the F word, bigotry, and hatred. But for the most part, I completely enjoy being around young people. They keep ME young and make me happy being around them. After all, they laugh and giggle a lot. Maybe at themselves, maybe at me. Who knows. I just know I can still relate to them and that's all that counts. Great post.

  13. So true my friend, I remember well my grandparents complaining when I wore a bandanna. If they could see what is going on today, I think we should love everyone just the way they are......we are no better no worse....:-)Hugs
