Happy Pink Saturday

Yep tis that time of the week again. Wowza-woo don't they come faster and faster these days........Thanks Beverly from How Sweet The Sound for hosting this what has grown to be a huge undertaking event.

For this Pink Saturday I decided to share with you a few things I've been playing with this week. I subscribe to Paper Friendly by Nancy Ward and she graciously shares with us several time a day links to crafty sites and I sometimes am blown away by the creativity and willingness to share by other crafty gals out there and one in particular recently was Valita from Valita's Designs who gave a fantastic video tutorial on how to make the cutest Scrunched Flowers.

These are the only supplies you will need. I used plain white card stock weight paper, water in a spray bottle, inks or chalks, something sharp to make a hole in the center with, a small brad and six free form drawn flower petals. If you think you'd like to make some of these flowers click on the link to her blog and watch this quick video. They dry really hard and look in person more like a gently tattered vintage flower. I am now experimenting with using more than six petals and blue inks for a Hydrangea bloom!

This first one was created with pink chalk on all petals and when dried I added a smidgeon of mossy green ink.

On this I used a red and rust combination of inks and while wet I gently rolled some of the petal edges over a tooth pick.

Here I used brown ink before wetting and when dry added a little red around the edges. I love the antique effect this gives.

Some of them I haven't posted are in progress of being glittered. Yep, I'm applying a little glitter to the edges and to the "stamen" (brad) in the center for a more festive look. I tell you in person you would not believe they were made from paper.

I've been dis-assembling all my wallpaper sample books and once you have the huge brads out there is virtually nothing that cannot be used. There are vellium papers which can be used for a multitude of projects. The big glossy heavy pages showing interior decorating with the various wallpapers I have been using for Christmas Ornaments and I will show you that in a few days because I think it will knock your socks off! And the wallpapers themselves you know has unlimited uses for covering things and then you come to the fabric samples inbetween some of the pages, which I soak the glue off from the backa and then wash and dry them and whoa nellie! after that, here I have made hearts and lightly stuffed them and then embelished with bling-bling, laces, ribbons and voila! The very same litle paper flowers I've been telling you about are going on some of them. I plan to make a Victorian Heart Garland to drape over my living room windows for Christmas. And last but not least about those wallpaper books, front and back covers work well for TV trays, hard boards to use while doing small craft projects and what are you left with? A handle. Yep, save those handles because you will be able to use them for purse handles!

I tell you girls, I am from Louisiana and down here when our men go out to get some meat for the freezer we use it all and you've probably heard the old expression that a coon-ass (cajun person) will eat everything on the pig but the squeal is true! It is for true. Waste not............want not.

So what you see here is one of those wallpaper fabric sample hearts with a scrunched paper flower trimmed with a little lace.

And what you see here is another one of the above trimmed with some old fringe.

Now that will conclude my offering for Pink Saturday and while it is not terrible PINK it does show some hints of pinkness.

Have a wonderful week and happy creating! mizmollye

  11. I am in love with your latest creations, Mollye! I remember that my godmother had old wallpaper books when I was a kid and I used to cut out the wallpaper and use it to wallpaper the inside of my Barbie case! This post makes me want to find some more of those books! Happy PS and thank you for the birthday wishes!

  14. Yes Miz Mollye. I cannot believe how fast Saturday rolls around again each time either. Thanks for sharing your paper flower directions. They certainly look real even from here. I also love the way you reuse everything from your wallpaper books. I recently got my son to go rescue a bunch for me from the side of the road for me. He was like "What are you gonna do with those?" I should show him this post. Anyway he should be used to me by now. Love the heart too. I also loved the puzzle ornament I got from you in the swap. It was so adorable. I need to do a post on those soon.

  16. How could I have missed you, sweet chick?!?! I just found you from Miss Dolly's blog and had to pop over and am I glad I did. WOW!! I've tried the coffee filters and couldn't quite get the hang of them, but I've been challenged by my eBay group to make my Christmas tree all pink and white next year (couldn't possibly get it done for this year) and am going to spend 2010 making things for it. THIS is perfect!! These flowers are adorable and so inexpensive to do, sugar. I'm so glad I like the name Molly and saw your Mollye and voilà here I am!!! Nice to meet you Mollye and I'm adding you to my Google Reader so I don't miss another post. Headin' off now to watch the tutorial, sweeptea!

    xoxo,
