GOTTA DO MORE THAN..

than just push away from the table because uh.........something's got to be done with the FLAB! I mean honestly who wants the stuff hanging around.

So when the elbow automatically stops making that 90 degree angle from the top of the table to the mouth and it is no longer a habit and the new habit is to chew each bite for well until you know how long.....

THEN it is time to get moving. E-X-E-R-C-I-S-E. Why oh why is this a word we shudder at doing.

Remember how much fun we had doing it as kids. Skating that is.........Still wish I was doing that and I've had a hobby of skate collecting for well forever it seems and i love each and every pair.

I was in seventh heaven if I had a mile long white cotton jump rope. And boy could I come in without tripping. Remember the chants we made up as we jumped. And we even jumped with two ropes which we turned simutaneously and I can't even imaging doing that today. Talk about coordination. Kids just have it don't they?

What about Hopscotch. Oh there just aren't enough Orthopoedic specialists in the state of Louisiana for mizmollye if I jumped on the concrete today. The only place I want to jump around today is jumping in my bed each nite when the ten oclock news is almost over!

And I know you remember the joys of collecting, playing with and TRADING Marbles. Wish I had a penny today for everyone I've ever owned. And it was double the fun if you had a brother because they always had a bunch of them.

Here's one you might have played. Red Light, Green Light. Yes? Well what about "Mother, May I" or Red Rover

And many people I know never heard of this one I loved and that was walking around on stilts. Some of the neighborhood kids had them and the ones who didn't stomped on tin cans and made them fit tight around the heels of their shoes and we clanked around the neighborhood in that get-up. Walking in the middle of the street of course.

On our street the train tracks ran down the middle and two or three times a week a single little engine and maybe one or two cars came puttering down the tracks. We called it the "Dingy" because the engineer always rang the clanging bell long before he got to the kids playing in the street.

Now that was living and something fun to look forward to...the Dingy and the Ice Cream Man also called the Good Humor Man.

Well maybe that's why we stayed all slim and trim back then, because we knew nothing of diets but we ate homecooking our Momma's put on the table and we exercised. Only then it was called PLAY.

See ya girls, I'm off to play now!

  1. Now Miz M, I know you are not as old as me, but your pictures look something like the era I lived in. The skates and skirts anyway. I hope you get all your buddies back. I found myself, thank goodness, I don't want to get lost between here and Louisianna without you.

  4. Oh dear Mollye, easier said than done. I admire your will power.
I do remember getting plenty of exercise as a kid. We would play for hours outside riding bikes, skating, hulahooping, cheerleading and just about anything that kept us moving.
I also loved playing jacks, I doubt that I'm coordinatied enough for that anymore.

    Thanks for the memories.
